The Betty White Name Game

Betty White Names Everything

After reading Betty White's recent interview in Parade Magazine, I've decided I want to live inside her head. She talked about how much she loves Cadillacs, and how she always names them after birds. Her current Caddy is named "Seagull"—her previous ones were named "Canary" and "Parakeet." Oh, and her dog is named "Pontiac." So cars are named after birds and dogs are named after cars. Just go with it, Betty! I wonder what else she names? [Parade]

Camille Grammer: "I Feel Completely Abandoned" by Kelsey

Camille Grammer: "I Feel Completely Abandoned" by Kelsey

In the wake of their divorce, Camille Grammer has been brutally honest about how things went down with ex-husband Kelsey Grammer. Earlier this week, Camille, 42, said she believed Kelsey, 55, wanted her to join the cast of the upcoming The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills so that she would be preoccupied while he had an affair.

Now, Camille has opened up to People magazine about how the pain she's going through. "This is my chance to tell my story and move on," she explains. "Maybe it will be cathartic. Maybe this is part of my process."

Camille reveals how she found out Kelsey (whom she wed in 1997 and has two children with, Mason, 9, and Jude, 6, with) was ending their marriage. "In June I got a phone call from a mutual friend in New York who was upset by behavior of his that she'd seen," she says. "I asked, 'Is he leaving me?' and she said, 'Yes.' I called him but couldn't get through, so I texted him and asked him to please call me. Nothing. An hour later, I texted him again and he wrote: 'I don't want to talk.' I wrote, 'We've been together for 14 years; I deserve an explanation.' Finally, three hours later, he called me. He basically said, 'I don't want to be married anymore.'"

But, the drama hardly ended there. Camille, who says she feels "abandoned" and "dismissed" by the actor, claims her husband had no desire to work on their problems. "I asked him if there was anything we could work on," she says. "I offered to go to therapy. Having children, I wasn't ready to throw in the towel. But his mind was already made up. I started crying and he said, 'Oh, grow up.' I said, 'What about our children?' and he said, 'They'll get over it.' It was harsh."

Kelsey began a relationship with flight attendant Kayte Walsh (who recently miscarried his child) while he was in New York City working on the Broadway production La Cage Aux Folles. Camille claims he will only communicate with his her via emails, or their lawyers and therapist.

Still, Camille says she isn't the only one suffering. She opened up about how the divorce is affected their children.

"They still don't realize he's not coming back," she says. "They think their daddy is busy doing a play. I'm trying to work with them on the concept that he's not going to come home the way they think he is. For my son, who is only 6, that's hard to understand. They've heard about his girlfriend, but the girlfriend to them is not real. How do you explain that to a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old? You can't lie. You have to be as truthful as possible, but you also have to be responsible."

But despite her pain, Camille is ready to move on. "I don't want to look back anymore," she says. "I'm excited about rediscovering myself and becoming independent again."

Dear Wendy: "I Gave My BFF A Place To Stay And Now I Feel Taken Advantage Of"

Dear Wendy Advice Column

My best friend of 11 years has been living with my fiancé and me for the past two months because she's having marital issues, and after a year of marriage isn't sure she wants to be married anymore. I have been nothing but supportive, not judging her. She has been living with us for free (including food) as she has to still pay half her mortgage and household bills. In the beginning of all this, she had started a "flirtation" with a guy at work, meeting him for dinner, and talking to him every day after work and before bed. His true colors started to show so she slowly moved away. Since then, she has started texting someone we work with, and being secretive about it. One night she said she'd be home around 10, but didn't come back until 1:30. She said she had been home hanging out with her husband and fell asleep on the couch. I think she was with the new guy. Today, when she was in the shower, I checked her texts and there is definitely something going on with them. I feel hurt and like I can't trust her. We opened our home to her and I feel like she is abusing my trust. I know I should not have looked at her texts, but my gut told me something was going on. I talked to my fiancé about it and he wants to tell her to leave. I don't want to send her packing, but at the same time I am feeling very used. What should I do? — Feeling Taken Advantage Of

SPORTS FAB: Carmelo STILL Wants Out Of Denver

After one of the biggest off-season's in NBA history, Carmelo Anthony is still trying to get out of Denver. Find out his comments after their first game plus the teams he may go to when you read on...

Although the Denver Nuggets dominated the Utah Jazz in their season opener, Melo still had negative comments to say about the team. After the victory, Carmelo told reporters,

"They want to sit down and talk, but my thing is it’s way beyond this year, it ain’t got nothing to do with the new GM, (president) Josh (Kroenke), the players. For me, I feel it’s a time for change. If I do nothing now, I’m never going to do anything. I feel like my time is now to make a decision if I want to leave or if I want to stay.”

The Nuggets offered Carmelo a three year extension worth $64 mil in June, but Melo is still refusing this offer. Last month the New Jersey Nets were close to getting Carmelo in a four way trade, but the Nuggets failed to go through. The Knicks, with the help of Spike Lee, are also very interested in acquiring Carmelo.

Carmelo is very interested in signing with the Knicks, which he would be able to do in the next off-season. However, a trade is still possible. Last season, Melo averaged 28 points and 6 rebounds a game. The Nuggets lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Refusing $64 mill?  Looks like Melo and his new wife Lala are itching to get closer to their NY home...

Where do you think Carmelo should go?

'The Walking Dead' Lurches From Comic Book To AMC

TV show, based on Robert Kirkman's zombie series, premieres Halloween night.
By Rick Marshall

This weekend, hordes of flesh-hungry zombies will finally shamble their way from printed page to television screen as AMC premieres its new post-apocalyptic horror series "The Walking Dead" on Halloween night.

Based on writer Robert Kirkman's long-running comic book series that debuted in 2003, "The Walking Dead" chronicles the trials and tribulations of former Kentucky police officer Rick Grimes as he struggles to first find then protect his family in a nightmarish landscape where corpses walk and living humans are an endangered species.

The premiere of "The Walking Dead" culminates just over a year of casting, filming and near-constant conversation about the project among comic book and horror fans, and puts Oscar-winning filmmaker Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Mist") in the director's chair for the pilot episode, "Days Gone Bye." No stranger to horror fare, Darabont also serves as executive producer of the series, and wrote or co-wrote each episode in the initial six-episode arc.

When MTV News visited the set of "The Walking Dead" in June, the fan-favorite auteur discussed the project amid overturned cars and abandoned military vehicles in a closed-off section of downtown Atlanta — with a massive crowd of background actors made up to look like zombies milling about just a few feet away.

Comparing the tone of the series to a classic western, Darabont likened lead actor Andrew Lincoln to well-known Hollywood heroes of the Old West, such as "High Noon" star Gary Cooper.

"I always kind of knew it, but it really came home as we've been shooting the last few days — it really does turn into a Western at times," Darabont said. "You see [Lincoln] riding into the dusty streets of the town here, only it happens to be Atlanta with these skyscrapers, [and] it's a very cool mix of visual elements. There's a little John Ford meets 'I Am Legend' thing going on here."

Kicking off with a 90-minute premiere, "The Walking Dead" has AMC hoping it has yet another award-winning series on its hands to tout alongside such recent hits as "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad." In fact, Lincoln recently told MTV News it was the latter of those two series that inspired Darabont's approach to "The Walking Dead."

"He said, 'I want you to watch two things,' " Lincoln said of his early conversations with Darabont about the role. " 'Breaking Bad,' which is a show he was a huge admirer of, so I rewatched the first series. And he said, 'Watch Gary Cooper,' so I watched 'High Noon.' "

For Darabont, the tonal connection between the two projects was so significant that he recruited "Breaking Bad" director/producer Michelle MacLaren to direct the series' second episode.

Still, despite the connections between "The Walking Dead" and any existing movie or television projects, Darabont and the series' creative team and cast have remained adamant about one aspect throughout the project's development: The source of its appeal lies firmly in the characters, tone and visual foundation established by Kirkman and the comic book's artists, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.

"What I find is that we're very much on course with the philosophy we approached the show with," Darabont told MTV News earlier this month. "From the very first, I always said to Robert Kirkman, 'I want to follow the narrative path you've laid out, but I want to take as many interesting detours and step off the path for a little bit as [much as] we can, as long as it feels organic to the overall.' "

"The Walking Dead" premieres Sunday, Halloween night, at 10 p.m. ET on AMC.

Help Save-A-Pet!

I've mentioned this before, but my mom volunteers at Save-A-Pet, a no-kill animal shelter in Illinois. Like many charities, they're currently having financial difficulties and might have to close their doors unless they receive more donations. Here's a link to a message regarding their financial situation.

If you can donate anything—even just one dollar—it would be greatly appreciated. They've been around for almost 40 years and are currently home to almost 300 animals. Here are some photos I took last time I was there:

He was my favorite, Jax. I would take him home if I could, but he needs to be the only animal in the house.

All the cats stay in the same room and have "kitty condos."

"Meow! I like to cuddle!"

"Woof! I'm cute!"

"I also only have three legs, but I'm doing fine!"

Every dog gets to go outside and play every day.

Please help if you can! Thank you!

Nicki Minaj Open To Lady Gaga Collaboration

'I'm inspired by her creativity,' the self-proclaimed 'feature queen' says on MTV's 'RapFix Live.

Lady Gaga is no stranger to hip-hop and R&B collaborations, lending her talents to efforts from Kid Cudi, Wale and Beyoncé. While Gaga hasn't jumped on a record with rap's reigning collabo mistress, Nicki Minaj, the Young Money lyricist says she's down to change that.

During her "RapFix Live" interview, Minaj revealed she would be interested in jumping on a track with Gaga — especially if it's guaranteed to be a monster.

"I'm inspired by her creativity," Minaj said. "The women in the game, I never say I would never work with them because, in fact, if there's an opportunity for me to work with them, and it's a way that we can kill the game and do something crazy, why would I turn that down?"

The Young Money diva added, "I love collaborating with artists. I've been a feature queen for the last year, right?"

Like Gaga, Minaj's bi-curious lyrics and zany swagger have helped beef up her hearty gay following. The "Right Thru Me" spitter said in addition to championing the struggles of the LGBT community, she stands up for all of her fans battling hate.

"It's important for me to stand up for anyone that is being ridiculed and bullied. I don't differentiate between who I'm speaking on behalf of. If three black kids ... committed suicide and I needed to speak on behalf of them, I would have spoken up," she said. "Because I think that, at the end of the day, you don't have to love everyone's lifestyle. You don't have to embrace everyone. But I do think you have to respect everyone."

Minaj, who is careening toward superstardom on the strength of her hard-hitting rhymes, reminded fans that hateful barbs can hurt more than physical jabs.

"Some people think like, 'Well, if I don't hit someone, I'm not hurting them.' But those words that you say to a person — that bullying, that ridicule — it hurts them even more," she said. "So yes, I spoke up for the gay community and I will do that for all and any of my fans if they're being tormented, because it's sad."

Alicia Keys has proven to be as selfless in real life as she is in song.

The singer held her 8th annual Keep a Child Alive Black Ball event in New York on Thursday night. The fundraiser brought out Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Usher, Jay Sean, Janelle Monae, Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston and more.

Jay-Z and Keys' husband, Swizz Beatz, performed "On to the Next One," and Jay later performed "Empire State of Mind." Monae also hit the stage, as did Keys and Sade, who performed a duet, "Love Is Stronger Than Pride."

"It's my heart and soul," Keys told MTV News about the organization she co-founded. "Since the beginning, we've been very driven to do incredible work. I'm proud to show what four to five women who are very dedicated can do."

The organization benefits children and families who have been affected by AIDS but can't afford to purchase medicine; the event reportedly helped raise $2.4 million.

This year, Keep a Child Alive introduced the "Buy Life" T-shirt. The shirt features a large barcode on the garment; donors can buy the shirt and scan the code with their smart phones to make a donation to the charity. Every time the code is scanned by a phone, a donation goes through. Ryan Seacrest, Kim Kardashian and Katie Holmes are among the celebrity spokespeople appearing in ads for the shirt.

"It's like a dream to me to be among these people singing and performing, and opening people's eyes to what Keep a Child Alive can do," Keys said.

'Paranormal Activity' Creator Lists His Sequel Requirements

'Found footage is a fairly important part of it,' Oren Peli tells MTV News of first two films.
By Eric Ditzian

Oren Peli
Photo: MTV News

After driving a movie that made more than $40 million its first weekend, the demon will rise again. Make no mistake about it: A sequel to "Paranormal Activity 2" will happen, and filmmakers already know where to take the story.

As director Tod Williams told us, he and the rest of the "PA" crew came up with a slew of ideas about the direction "PA 3" should take. But at this point, according to "PA" creator Oren Peli, no threequel discussions have taken place with Paramount.

"There haven't been any talks that I've been involved in," he told MTV News on Wednesday. "It's only been a couple of days since the weekend. I'm sure people are talking about it and thinking about it. There are probably going to be some discussions."

Peli said that, if "PA 3" is made, there's little chance he'll jump back into the director's chair. "For now I'm happy with my role as a producer," he said.

As a producer, though, he was intimately involved with the creation of "PA 2," and he told us that whatever happens in "PA 3," the movie needs to stay true to its roots of being found-footage-based and taking place in a regular family's house.

"I think found footage is a fairly important part of it in the way it presents the movie in very authentic footage, so it doesn't feel like a movie," he said. "And I think the other thing is what happens in your own home at night while you're asleep and you're vulnerable and there's an unseen force. You don't know what it is, you don't know how to protect yourself from it."

Check out everything we've got on "Paranormal Activity 2."

Adam Lambert's 'Whole Lotta Love': The Story Behind The Cover

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: R. Mickshaw/Getty Images/ Fox

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off Led Zeppelin's 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again."

That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on "American Idol" rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon.

For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997.

Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction.

Michael Jackson Doctors Won't Be Charged In Singer's Death

California state investigators will not file charges against seven other doctors who treated the late star.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Seven doctors who treated the late Michael Jackson will not be charged in the singer's death. According to The Associated Press California officials said Wednesday (July 28) that they will not file charges against the doctors who were under scrutiny as part of an investigation launched by the state's Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement.

Jackson passed away in June 2009 after suffering cardiac arrest. His personal doctor Conrad Murray — who was not one of the seven doctors included in the investigation — has been charged in his death and pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter after allegedly giving the star the potent anesthetic propofol.

"I am very disappointed," said Brian Oxman, an attorney for Michael Jackson's father Joe Jackson. "The misuse of medications by Michael Jackson in the last years of his life was excessive and to fail to bring that to the public eye is ignoring reality." Oxman is serving as Joe Jackson's lawyer in a wrongful death suit against Murray.

Bureau spokesperson Christine Gasparac told the AP that one of the doctors who was under investigation was referred to the California Medical Board for prescribing drugs to one of Jackson's aliases, however, a spokesperson for the board did not confirm the referral. A spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Agency told the AP that it has also dropped its investigation into Jackson's doctors.

Murray lawyer Ed Chernoff has maintained that the doctor did not administer a fatal dose of propofol and has suggested that either Jackson gave himself the anesthetic or another person may have supplied the late star with the dose. However, an anesthesia expert has said the possibility of Jackson administering the drug himself is unlikely.

A preliminary hearing in the Jackson manslaughter case is slated for August and Murray faces a sentence of up to four years in jail.

'Paranormal Activity' Creator Answers More Burning Sequel Questions

'PA 2' producer Oren Peli addresses our lingering queries about the horror film.
By Eric Ditzian

Oren Peli
Photo: MTV News

On Monday, just hours after "Paranormal Activity 2" finished up its $40.7 million opening weekend, MTV News stepped in to answer some burning questions about the horror film with the help of director Tod Williams.

But you know what? We had even more questions we wanted answered, so we brought in "PA" creator Oren Peli — who stepped into a producer role for the sequel — to respond to some other lingering queries we had about the film (major spoilers below).

What Happened to the Dog?
As the demon presence ramps up its activity in Kristi and Dan's home, their dog essentially freaks the hell out and has to be rushed to the vet. Perhaps he had a seizure, one of them speculates. But the dog is never seen again. So is the German Shepherd OK?

"Many are concerned," Peli laughed. "As far as I know, the dog is OK. There's a line in there that they're going to pick her up from the vet. So I think she's OK."

What Did the Scratches on the Door Say?
The demon seems to have taken up residence in their basement, and after Kristi is dragged kicking and screaming down there, the camera focuses in on the door. It appears as though a word is scratched into the wood. Does it actually say anything?

"I will say that it does say something, but I'm not sure when is the right time to reveal that," Peli confirmed. "We might want to save that for later. I'm going to keep quiet on that."

Aren't They Glad They Didn't Kill Off Katie in the First Movie?
As fans of the first movie know, Peli filmed a few different endings. In the ending that made it into the theatrical release, Katie survives. But in an alternate ending, she's shot by police. But "PA 2" begins its story prior to the events of the original and ends after those original events take place, with Katie showing up at Kristi's house to commit a few murders. Given that storytelling technique, how happy is Peli that he didn't kill off Katie in the first movie?

Turns out, Peli is confident that even if the alternate "PA" ending stuck, Katie could still have showed up to wreak bloody havoc at the end of "PA 2." "When I did the first one, I wasn't thinking about a sequel or anything like that," he explained. "But there are a lot of smart writers out there. There's probably ways to get around anything."

How Did They Avoid the 'Blair Witch 2' Curse?
"PA" is often compared to "The Blair Witch Project," insofar as they are both breakout horror hits that utilize the found-footage narrative technique. While "Blair Witch" grossed almost $250 million worldwide, the sequel abandoned its found-footage roots and ultimately made just 19 percent as much as the original.

For "PA 2," Peli and his fellow filmmakers learned the lessons of "Blair Witch 2" well and were sure to preserve the elements of "PA" that made it so popular. " 'Blair Witch' was an example of a movie that really worked and they really changed the format. The audience that loved the first one came to see the second one, and they got something very different," he said. "We wanted to make sure that the fans that had been waiting will not be disappointed. The things that they liked about the first one, we tried to stay true to that but also give them a different story and a grander scope of things, so it'll be both new and consistent with what worked the first time."

What Did Peli Actually Do on 'PA 2'?
While Peli wrote and directed "PA," he stepped into the role of producer for "PA 2." So, um, what the heck did Peli actually do for the sequel?

"I was there during the entire shoot," he said. "It was much more of a collaborative effort. [Tod] was the main guy running the show, but he was very collaborative. Everyone got to chip in their ideas, and I had a lot of ideas. There was a lot of teamwork involved, but it was so tricky to pull off the right tone. Everyone checked their egos.

"We all really love Tod. He got what made the first one work," Peli added. "Tod is also a writer, so he brought a lot of good ideas in. Also, I've already lived with 'Paranormal Activity' for four years, so I was ready to move and transition and let someone else take over."

¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?
